How to style it in your bedroom

The details that decide whether it looks considered or just put there. Worth two minutes before you commit to a spot.

1. Decide what the lamp is really for. Reading wants light at shoulder height beside the chair; atmosphere can sit lower and further back.
2. Aim for three light sources per room at different heights: something overhead, something at table height, something low. One ceiling light on its own is what makes a room feel like an office.
3. Beside a sofa, the bottom of a floor lamp shade wants to sit around 40 to 49 inches up, so the bulb stays out of your eye line while you are sitting.
4. On a side table, the shade bottom should land near eye level when seated, which usually means a lamp 26 to 34 inches tall depending on the table height.
5. Keep bulb warmth consistent in a single space. Around 2700K reads warm and calm in living rooms and bedrooms; save cooler light for desks.
6. Put it on a dimmer or use a smart bulb. The same corner reads relaxed at 30 percent and busy at full, and it costs nothing else to style.
7. Arc lamps need swing room. Measure the arm reach, often 40 to 60 inches, and keep the head clear of the path people walk.
8. Set one lamp on a timer for the evenings you get home after dark. Walking into a lit room is most of what makes a house feel finished.

Pair with warm 2700K bulbs and position at shoulder or seated eye level so the glow feels inviting and glare-free.
