How to style it in your living room

The details that decide whether it looks considered or just put there. Worth two minutes before you commit to a spot.

1. Match stem height to the vase: about one and a half times the vase height for a loose, natural arrangement, or cut level with the rim for a tight modern look.
2. Group in odd numbers at different heights. Three vases of varying height beat five matching ones on any surface.
3. Give a tall floor vase its own space, in a corner or beside furniture, never in the middle of where people walk.
4. On a dining table, keep it under 12 inches so people can see across, or go tall and slim so the conversation passes underneath.
5. With faux stems, buy fewer and better. Two good pampas or eucalyptus stems look more real than a full bunch of shiny plastic.
6. Shape faux stems after unboxing. Bending and separating them for five minutes is the difference between styled and straight out of the box.
7. Fill clear glass with sand, pebbles or nothing at all when the stems are faux. Water in a vase of dry stems is the detail people notice.
8. Dust silk and dried stems with a hairdryer on the cool setting. It reaches into places a cloth cannot and takes seconds.

Let this piece serve as a defined anchor, keeping surrounding accent surfaces clean so its craftsmanship stands out.
